House Concert Series: Bart Stenhouse (flamenco guitar, AUS) & Surojato Roy (tabla, IND)

Greenaway Studio welcomes outstanding World Music duo Bart Stenhouse (AUS) and Surojato Roy in a special concert as part of their 2018 East Coast Tour. They create dynamic, enthralling and spiritually moving World Music - not to be missed!

BART STENHOUSE is an accomplished Australian guitarist and composer, well versed in Indian Classical and Flamenco styles. He creates stunning sound worlds that blend the rhythms, harmonies and sonic identities of different cultures into a unique and engaging musical fusion. He is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium and has gone on to study with masters all over the world, including North Indian Classical maestro Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya (who is a Indian slide guitar specialist), and has also studied flamenco guitar in Spain and North America.

SUROJATO ROY was introduced to tabla under renowned tabla player Pandit Tanmoy Bose at the tender age of four. Later he got the rare opportunity to become a 'Ganda bandh shagird' of the great tabla doyen and the legendary Farukhabad tabla maestro Sangeetacharya Pandit Shankar Ghosh and took taalim from him for the past nineteen years. After his demise he is under the able guidance of maestro Pandit Subhankar Banerjee. Apart from winning competitions like ‘The All India Radio Music Competition’, ‘The Doverlane Music Competition’, ‘Inter University National Unifest’, ‘Guru Jnyan Prakash Ghosh memorial award’. His performances have been highly praised in festivals like ‘The Saptak Music Festival’, Ahmedabad, ‘Harballav Music Festival’, Jalandhar etc. Apart from performing nationwide, Surojato was invited to perform concerts and workshops in London, USA, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Malayasia and Bangladesh. Alongside tabla, Surojato also took taalim in mridangam from Vidyan R. Srinivasan. Surojato holds a dual Masters in English Literature and Indian percussion music and is presently pursuing his Ph.D from Calcutta University.
